Differences in composition and use between ferromanganese and metallic manganese ingots
Manganese iron and metal manganese ingot are two important materials in steelmaking. Manganese iron usually contains about 75% to 80% manganese and 15% to 18% iron. It is mainly used as an additive in steelmaking to promote the deoxidation and desulfurization of steel, improve its mechanical properties, and prevent the formation of cracks during solidification.
On the other hand, metal manganese ingot usually contains over 99% manganese and is used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking process. It can improve the strength, toughness, and wear resistance of steel, and also enhance its resistance to corrosion.
In the steelmaking process, manganese iron is usually added in the first step of the refining process to remove impurities, while metal manganese ingot is added after the molten steel reaches a certain temperature to refine the steel and adjust its composition. The amount of manganese added depends on the specific requirements of the steel product to be produced.
In summary, both manganese iron and metal manganese ingot play important roles in the steelmaking process, and their different compositions and functions are utilized to improve the quality and performance of steel products.
