Calcium silicon is a ferroalloy which is approximately 30% calcium and 60% silicon and is primarily used for removing gases and nonme - tallic inclusions in the iron smelting process. As calcium silicon is lighter than other ferroalloys, calcium s ilicon in t he form of p owder is normally added to molten metal by injection or in a cored wire. It is also widely used as an inoculum for cast metal.
